It looks to me like just a fine-tuning of deglaciation that can easily be misinterpreted or over-generalized.
My town had never had a 100 degree day in June since records have been kept. This june we had four consecutive days over 100. I realize that climate is not weather, but the trends are getting pretty clear for the past decade or two. For me to have 8 foot tall pot plants that were started from seed by the fourth of july is a new thing.
When I was growing up, the saying was that you had to have your corn knee-high by fourth to have it mature before the first frost. The corn is damned near hip-high this year and early frosts have not vexed me for several years now. GMO corn has almost made it successfully to the canadian border now, another year of this, and there will be Round-up resistant corn in manitoba for a profit very soon.
