Typically what happens in a stock that has low volume is if someone comes in with a large order to increase the price 100% or more, it triggers alerts across investment firms worldwide. Then those investment firms (or individuals) each decide to get in on the action wondering what caused the price to move hoping to profit from the move. So the volume explodes quickly. Then after that happens price drops hard. This seems like it could be one of those types of price moves.
