I doubt these postings are so they can go it alone, but instead might be for creating leverage against low-ball BO offers. As in, "We don't need to accept your low offer, we are actively pursuing the ability to proceed on our own and here's the proof..."
With the added benefit that maybe the buyer would want to keep the staff in place versus having to start from scratch finding the necessary skillsets. Then again, it doesn't sound like the positions are being filled. Maybe contingent offers based on positive data? Who knows.
