The variants are definitely a problem here since we are playing catch up with getting people vaccinated. To a degree the vaccines are working on the variants but people who have not been vaccinated will be carriers of the new virus. And now we have an oversupply of vaccines since some dumbasses don't want the shot.

Here they started out with everyone over 65 which was me but wife missed the boat by 2 years.

In the meantime son at 21 got to move up ahead of her since he is a frontline worker.

I finally got them both 1st shots and wife has now had the second. The kid goes this week for his second.

But we are still not sharing the wealth regarding the actual make up of the vaccine.

They've dropped the access vaccination age to 40 here, which is still not good enough.

Not for the variants. Is Canada depending solely on the AZN vaccine? Supply in your area?

The UK variant here cropped up before it did in this US

More good news is the S African strain got some play out of the UK a few days ago. That should help it get spread more in the US, after crossing the Atlantic from the UK. After the UK variant clears out. That will have to run its course.

I hate to say it, but I think the US is in for a worse time of it, assuming history repeats.

Once vaccination in the US is said to be completed, State level mitigation measures will fall away. Then will come screaming media headlines about another Covid wave. The anti-VAXers being the target of Covid. The pro-VAXers as in vaccinated with more mild-moderate breakthrough infections. Especially with the 65+ group. More screaming headlines about that. Covid fatigue vs the Fed Gov wanting the States to clamp down again. Injecting some political pixie dust into the public debate. If no herd immunity through vaccination it ought to be fun.

Per the WH, the US went from the tRUMP Admin, that didn't give a shit, to a Biden Admin that might end up stressing the Covid fatigue. Opposite polarities.

They've dropped the access vaccination age to 40 here, which is still not good enough. I fear for the US as these variants take hold.

Here, the vaccination eligibility age is now 16. Which means anyone can get it, and the availability problems of even a month or so ago are mostly gone. The real problem is people who still refuse to get it.
