Regarding Penryn:
It actually booted windows within 1.5 hours of the packaged parts arriving at Intel's lab in Folsom. No, I don't have a link but that's what my sources tell me and they are 100% reliable. The parts had to come from a blind build so that 1.5 hours must have involved some wasted time going through a few parts looking for a good one. In short, in almost no time Penryn showed as much if not far more functionality that we have seen from Barcelona. With Intel's announcement that 45nm process development is now complete and startup costs are heavily weighted in 1H, I think it is possible we will see Penryn hit the streets before we see Barcelona.
