Would you agree that the GOP uses mental health to undercut and distract from arguments for reasonable control measures?

Absolutely agree they do that.....But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be addressing it in a much stronger manner....As a matter a fact, when you do take the issue on, it takes the fire out of their argument...

Diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues can be time consuming and hit or miss

Kennedy put it best....We do things because they are hard......

So let's reduce risks on the gun side of the equation while addressing the mental health issues.

That's the only point I was making.....

And that's the only relevance mental health has... an excuse. An excuse to perpetrate a gun culture. When the my gun is bigger than your gun culture, volunteers to turn into snowflakes for the moment.

So what is this grandiose plan for mental health, while using it as an excuse for very loose gun control? Are we going to have social workers knocking on everyone's door once a week to ask: "Are you feeling ok today? Any urges to take a gun, and shoot up the grocery store?".

And how would this mental health program relate to the teenager who murdered a few people in Wisconsin last year? Did he have mental health issues? Or was he part of a gun culture, that believed he had the right to carry an AR-15 around, and waste anyone he previously antagonized? There's no mental illness there. It's a gun culture issue.

What about the militias who believe only armed insurrection will get rid of the current tyrannical US Government? That isn't mental illness, it's a belief. In the meantime if they get into a road rage incident, they'll have their "heat" at the ready.

So yeah, let's do the usual. Pray for the slaughtered souls. Convene a Congressional committee on mental illness. Allocate funds for local use. Then who needs to break the gun culture with gun control? We'll be good to go until the next slaughter - "Cleanup needed in the produce aisle".
