It doesn't necessarily force them to cover but since shorts in certain brokerages like TDA have not issued shares yet, if this continues to rise higher while the TA has still not issued the shares yet, this could cause a short squeeze once those shares are issued.
This is all assuming the price continues to rise based on this afternoon's CC. If not, then obviously no short squeeze.
I'm guessing this is what George was hoping would happen
