I use 1979 as the point
when the radical Islamists started openly attacking us

.. after more than half a century of us victimizing them?

I favor talks. So do all the cooler heads on your side of the aisle. And I would throw Israel under a bus in a second if they refuse to retreat to the '67 lines.

A retreat to the '67 borders would win us most of the Arab world. That would take care of the radical rest for us.

Have you stopped to consider what would happen if we attacked Iran and Pervez Musharraf could no longer hold on in Pakistan? They're not working on nuclear weapons; they have them, and they've not only supported the Taliban, they've attacked us at least once that we know of. (Google ISI and Mohammed Atta)

It's a big world, and none of it's in black and white just because Little Augustus in the White House sees it that way...

Yes 95 sucks, plus they let Rhode Islanders drive on it.

...back to the game.

Constitutional Revolution

Are you forgetting that the people of Iran fought long and hard for their constitution...only to see it taken away by the U.S. and Britain. Do you think the Iranians forget the period between 1953 and 1979 and believe our history with them begins in 1979...somehow I doubt it. Our nation's ignorance and denial of history continues to isolate us from the world.

"During the early 1900s the only way to save country from government corruption and foreign manipulation was to make a written code of laws. This sentiment caused the Constitutional Revolution. There had been a series of ongoing covert and overt activities against Naser o-Din Shah’s despotic rule, for which many had lost their lives. The efforts of freedom fighters finally bore fruit during the reign of Moazaferedin Shah. Mozafaredin shah ascended to throne on June 1896. In the wake of the relentless efforts of freedom fighters, Mozafar o-Din Shah of Qajar dynasty was forced to issue the decree for the constitution and the creation of an elected parliament (the Majlis) in August 5, 1906. The royal power limited and a parliamentary system established.....

.........Shah was put to exile, only to be restored to power in a CIA-sponsored coup d’etat. Upon return, he promptly dissolved both Majlis and the House of Senate."

"As one professional explained to me in Tehran in early 1966: "Isn't this part of the reason why you Americans fought the British? The redcoats refused to abide by local law and did as they wished in the colonies. Why do you Americans insist on being above the law here in Iran?

.....Few political observers or scholars understood the long-term significance of what was happening." James A. Bill

The Eagle and the Lion: The Tragedy of American-Iranian Relations by James A. Bill

This was in reference to the Iranian American SOFA signed in late 1964.

What country/companies introduced Iran to the idea of nuclear power anyway?
