DO I NEED AN EXIT STRATEGY?
This time of relative quiet might be good for some long term planning. I need your help. Do you believe in the need for an exit strategy?
Years ago, I used to have a goal of a 20% profit. I remember I bought Gilette when they came out with one of their Sensor razors. It went up 20% and I was out. But then, I realized that I might have made more if I had stayed in longer. I saw the stock rise much higher but I was already out. So then, I decided to invest "for the long term". What happened? The March 2000 Nasdaq crash came and I got burned badly.
With CYGX, 20% is obviously an inappropriate goal as that often happens from one day to the next. But what is the proper exit point? While this might sound silly to many when the stock is currently hovering under one dollar, my exit point has for a long time been TEN dollars. But now, under the influence of this board's longs, I suppose that this number is too low. Should I raise it higher or abandon the notion of an exit strategy all together?
Thanks for your advice on this matter.
