In my county which is in NY they've instituted a rule where you ust have a test upon arriving from out of state.
If you test negative you can find out the next. If your positive they have to contact you and it takes 8 days.
Go Figure.
When Steve Forrestel traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota earlier this month for hand surgery, he and his wife followed all the New York State travel protocols. Both tested negative for Covid-19 while there and then arranged for tests through the Erie County Health Department four days after their return.
His wife, Cathy, learned she tested negative the day after her test here.
But Forrestel heard nothing for seven days.
He repeatedly called the Health Department for his results. An Erie County contact tracer called him on the eighth day – this past Tuesday.
"She said, 'We're finally getting to you. You're positive.' I said, 'You're kidding me.' "
Despite assertions by Erie County officials that they are only a day or two behind in reaching out to infected individuals and tracking down close contacts, that wasn't Forrestel's experience.
