Killery..Your friend is absolutely right..We recommend 400-800 iu of VitD per day in the States..However over the years I found even 4,000 iu a day..(Upper limit allowed) .. Was not enough to keep the Vit D level above 30ng/ml.. (Lower limit of where Vit D should be)..!!!

ALL my patients..Taking 5,000 units of Vit D ..Get a yearly Vit D level checked..Besides their CALCIUM in their General Health Profile..!!!

Indeed Hypercalcemia in Hypervitaminosis D is the cause of Neurologic..Abdominal..Neuromuscular complications..However I’ve only seen this in my Sarcoidosis patients..Who endogenously produce Vit D.. as part of their disease process..!!!

I’m comfortable treating my patients with 5,000 iu a day..And checking their levels yearly..!!!

However your friend is correct in stating 400 iu is what MOST Physicians prescribe..!!!
