WLorD: I do not want to point fingers during this discussion at individuals, even though I am tempted...vbg. I want to keep the discussion focussed on the practice rather than the individuals.

I suspect you know at least "some" of the subscription service gurus. I have no idea who they "all" are.

So, do you approve or disapprove of the practice?
