Well yeah. Someone decided to buy for a reason which is unknown at this point in time.They could have bought on the 22nd,23rd,26th,28th,27th,29th. All these days it traded in the low 2s.

Why today late all of a sudden late in the day before a weekend.

I'll stick with my guess about the financials. Just a guess.

Frankly, I'm surprised there were 600k shares available at these prices.

If I had to guess, I'd say that someone with either a cert or a margin call needed to sell and managed to line up a buyer.

The only thing I know of for certain is that it wasn't me on either side of the trades, but I'm happy to take the green close.
