GILD is one of the mid-cap/large-cap biotechs that I’ve shorted on multiple occasions during the past eight years; some trades gained and others lost but overall I have a net gain. DNA is another one like that: I made a mint shorting it in 2000-01 but lost some of those gains shorting it in 2003.

I shorted VRTX for a gain in the first half of 2006, but it wasn’t on the list of companies in message #40017 because that list included only companies that are profitable or near-profitable. Despite having been in business longer than almost all biotech companies, VRTX is not even close to being profitable. Regards, Dew
