At our shop it is not a serious consideration at the moment, however it is most often talked about in the context of running linux on the enterprise (aka mainframe) servers to reduce the scads and scads of small servers and support people as well as to facilitate integrated system management and improve operational discipline. My personal take is that linux is more of a threat in the Unix and Solaris where the number of system images expoded in the 90s but enterprise level tools and operational disciplines are sorely lacking. All of course IMHO.
