Waste rock and tailings will be a big problem. They claim they will mine 1000 tons of ore out of the mine, but even the richest of mines requires the removal of waste rock. The waste rock is often full of sulfides, heavy metals, etc. and will have to handled properly.
And once they have a pile of "ore" to mill and process, what happens to the tailings (the waste product from the milling process)? The ores are high in sulfides and you cannot legally just dump the tailings on the ground uncontrolled - the effects of acid mine runoff are a very serious issue.
The Water Quality Control Board will have some serious restrictions on their operations which I doubt they will be able to meet, even for just "assessment" work. Groundwater monitoring, surface water monitoring, a tailings impoundment, liner design and installation, reports, permits, and so on........
Heathman is woefully unprepared for any of this. There is a reason that there aren't hundreds of small time operations scattered around all of the mining districts throughout the Southwest. The mining rules designed to protect the environment are set up for real, legitimate operations.....not hobby miners.
