Well computers can't—at least, not very well.

In a research experiment, computers got it wrong 30% of the time.

Even a two-year-old can do better than that.

But just like a two-year-old, computers need to be taught.

We've taught computers how to do math—and do it much faster than the human brain.

We've taught them to play chess, poker, and countless other games for our amusement.

We've taught them how to read, and powerful search engines were born. I can't get through a day without asking Google to search for something I need, can you?

And we even taught computers how to hear and recognize our voices. Hello Siri and Alexa.

Now, you can talk to your TV and tell it to switch to your favorite program. Lights turn on and off at your command. Your vacuum starts cleaning the floors, and your thermostat changes the temperature... all on your say-so.

But getting a computer to see—and understand what it sees like you and I do? Well that's been the most difficult challenge yet!

The greatest minds in the world have been at it for years... and results are spotty at best, like dogs and muffins.

But once a computer CAN see like a human... it will unleash the next great leap forward for computers and what we can make them do.

A leap so gigantic, so revolutionary that our lives will never be the same.
