Between 1994 and 1998 he was appointed on several occasions as an independent expert from the Pasteur Institute, Pasteur-Mérieux Sérums et Vaccins and INSERM.
After years spent in the Phamaceutical Industry, Dr Toufic Renno is currently Research Director at INSERM and manages a research group at the Cancer Research Center (Lyon).
He worked at the National Institute for Science and Medical Research (INSERM) and before becoming Assistant Professor at the Blood Center in Lyon where he developed the “Gel test” device with Dr Lapierre, now used worldwide in the field of immunohematology.

In April 2020, Inserm researchers, Dr. Camille Locht and Dr. Jean-Paul Mira, suggested on live television that COVID-19 experimental drugs be tested in Africa, despite the fact that Africa had the fewest cases of the virus in the world. After the comments were widely denounced as racist, Inserm and the two researchers released statements of apology.[2]
