I thought brokers job was to buy them for me also. If I want to lose thousands on the STATE lottery or casino noone is there stoping me. It's all a gamble. Is there any cases of an investor going back on the broker for his looses? sounds pretty unreasonable to me, can't be that common. Government, schools, doctors, & everybody else is takin my money anyways, if I want to use some of it to have a little fun (hopefully!) in the mkt. winning some and loosing some, I should be entitled. at least that's what I THOUGHT it was all about!

Why do you think they waited over a week after the divy was announced to "protect" the shareholders???...if they were confused about the divy, shouldn't they have put a restriction up immediately???

moon: They cannot prevent you from selling because they would be in violation of regulations put in after the "Black Monday" fiasco where brokers just stopped anwering the phones and prevented people from selling as the market took a dive.
