To some extent there was internal quarantine that helped. Also some people get very mild cases and some can carry the virus without symptoms.

I am glad that did not end up worse than it did.

Diamond Princess a great case study of total failure of isolation/quarantine..........
I call it petri dish of the sea,had 700+ cases of infected patrons/crew,or about 25% infection rate so far.
