And there is the main problem. Many people want to include EVERYONE that currently has the virus in order to calculate the death rate. But that is HORRIBLE math.

You can't include those cases that are active because you don't know what their outcome will be. Some of them will die.

You should just include those cases that have had an outcome (recovered or died).

There have been about 67,000 recovered and 4,389 dead. That gives a death rate of about 6.6%.

Some will argue that there are a lot of people that catch the virus that are not included in the stats. That might be true, but we will never know. There might also be deaths that are occurring that are not being included in the stats. I am pretty sure that everyone that is dying is not being tested for the virus (since there are a limited # of tests). So we can only go by what we know at this time.

What is influenza's mortality rate?

As I understand it, it changes every year, but on average it is approximately 0.1%
