I love reading about mechanisms of action in the morning! I can’t see how Brilicidin won’t alleviate some of the maladies associated with Covid 19 and many other ailments. I’m particularly anxious to see how it works with respiratory and if an aerosol treatment could be effective.
Yes, it looks like that is their hypothesized mechanism of action against enveloped viruses like SARS-CoV-2: disruption or puncture of viral envelope by cationic defensin mimetic. Again, whether or not it works I think depends on if the viral envelope has negative charges or not. We should find out pretty soon.
It also could be potentially useful for secondary bacterial infections and for anti-inflammatory activity in lungs.
