The idea is early detection and treatment. Outcome much better. In epidemic/pandemic situation that is LUXURY, that does not represent real situation. Without FEAR one can not generate *luxury*. Normally, fear should generate common sense approach, not panic.
The regular flu is also an exponential in is early stages
Flu has smaller R0, by a lot. So much slower doubling time. And once infected, flu has abt 10x less need for hospitalization. Finally, since COVID19 has such a high R0 it can roar through a much larger percent population. Massively more strain on society that is built on flu numbers.
