Thanks,

I really don't know that an inspection program can find things like coronavirus, all it takes is one person, crew or passenger to pass it on to others and before you know it, many people have it. What's needed is a way to treat it that people trust, once we have that the fear won't be anything like it is today. Our worst case is someone who's infected, but doesn't have symptoms passing it to many on say a 7 day cruise. None feel sick before leaving the ship, they spread out possibly all over the world, then start getting sick.

Improved sanitation can certainly reduce the rate of spread, but it can't be completely stopped until we either have a vaccine, or somehow become resistant to it naturally. Some hope that as weather warms up it will die off, but that doesn't explain places in the Southern Hemisphere having outbreaks while it's Summer there.

Disease certainly spread in places like ships where people are in a confined space and breathing air that is largely recirculating, with some fresh air being routinely added. Many years ago I designed such systems for the Navy, and I suspect most passenger ships are much the same.

I certainly hope something can be found to greatly reduce the death rate, it's not like normal flu doesn't kill, it does and it's generally into the tens of thousands or more annually, but it's a tiny percentage of those currently dying with coronavirus. The fear is based on the roughly 2 to 4% who are dying, knock that down to under 1% and people won't feel nearly as threatened.

Frankly, as a senior that's considered immune compromised, I have to be concerned. A vaccine may be fine for this threat in Fall of 2021, but meds that are effective is what's needed now and I believe that starts with dealing with pneumonia. Perhaps something can be found that prevents the disease from causing pneumonia, but barring that it's the pneumonia that's normally the killer.
