By default India will climb the ladder of economic power just on the cheap labor factor alone. One thing I find interesting is that a lot of people seem to think that it's just the manufacturing jobs that are leaving our shores...

not an accurate assesment with respect to foreign investment.
I did not mean India as a major player in high tech manufacturing, but just to name few areas where it is already a major player:

IT Outsorcing-major US banks/finance outsourced their IT to India. That process started about ten years ago (Citicorp), and today it is very hard to find a major bank which did not.

Customer Care - Numerous service and product companies are outsourcing CC & Telemarketing to India. Just check with your next telemarketer what country is he/she calling from.

Textile and garment industry..

RE India

the rampant corruption that exists throughout all levels of their political system and society, this country is going nowhere.

It is quite appropos that the Supreme Court is getting case this week where they reaffirm "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. It seems religious groups like Knights of Columbus exhorted Eisenhouser to get Congress to add the phrase in pledge in the 50's when we were fighting a war against the godless communists.

Now that we are fighting a war anew, some say terrorism, I just say a plain war of greed. This country finds it necessary to wrap oneself tightly in the flag and invoke the almighty to keep this country's corpulent lifestyle afloat.

Send the jobs to India China or anywhere they can work for slave wages and the CEO's will say a prayer every night before they go to sleep to reassure themselves that it will not bite us in the butt.
