Since Australia and the US share intelligence there is nothing wrong, on what we know so far, with the request. Only IF it comes out that Trump requested something in return would it be damaging for Trump, and for Morrison domestically if it turned out he was as as obsequious to Trump as Zelensky was.
I think Morrison is one of the few leaders who haven't outwardly criticized Trump. Hope a transcript surfaces in future.
