Naked shorts will keep their shorts well into the triple zero range if they can. I've seen it myself. They won't often cover until there's a good reason to do so. For legal shorts, they typically cover within a few days, regardless of price because they are mandated to do so. Whether they actually remain legal or hold illegal naked short positions is difficult to prove. If this ever becomes obvious due to a company actually rising from basement level share prices to serious money then shorts will cover, often at a loss but while they are doing this they are also making money on the way up as well as the market never trades in a perfect vertical up trajectory. They take advantage of dips and have perfected the game to take advantage, no matter which direction the market is going. There is a reason they are 'on top'. Once in a great while though a company like VRML or VW and some others, cause a short squeeze. Yes the MM's and others get hurt. It's taken NITE a long time to finally recover their losses.
