edgarcayce -

OK, Intel wanted to present Prescott but instead they offered a P4 Emergency Edition. And you are right, Intel has 64bit Itaniums. But Alpha had 64bit chips in the early 90's. MIPS, SPARC, HP-PA were the next. Intel had more money but no 64bit CPU during these times. It seems, that having more money won't automatically lead to better products for the customer.

I didn't say that Intel won't bring AMD64 compatible chips. I just wrote something about the recent rumours.

And if Intel would be like you've described, then they'd released the P4 Willamette as it was planned to be and not such a crippled version with less SSE2 units, smaller caches and so on.

They only cook with water like everyone else.

DDB-Intel can do anything it wants, it has more money than God.

In that case God comes third with MS a clear #1. I believe
the more common heretical expression is that Intel has more
fab space than god.

AMD is just around to keep Intel from monopolistic lawsuits.

Fully agree. Intel has had countless opportunities over the
last two decades to twist a knife in AMD's heart if it was so
inclined. But AMD is Intel's never fail get-of-out-monopoly-
charges-free card.
