I wouldn't call SPEC CPU corner cases of performance given
they are a bunch of programs chosen to be platform and OS
neutral as possible and representative of CPU performance
bound workloads.

Many useful programs are limited by factors other than sheer
CPU performance. Many useful programs are limited by sheer
CPU performance. Calling a suite of 26 programs chosen to
be representative of the latter group "absolute corner cases of
performance" is IMO rhetorical nonsense.
