Roach, "Protectionism is in the air, and China is the target. What a letdown."
Dan, I disagree with Roach on this. No, I don't blame China for our problems. However, I do think a bit more towards protectionism is needed here. Our past levels of protectionism is what made us strong - that protectionism gave us a higher standard of living. The open commerce idea may add the our multi-nationals bottom lines (that's the true goal) but the same will have negative effects on our economy. Just as PFE, hd and others would protect there franchise, we must do the same as a nation. Whole world commerce can only move our standard of living closer to the averages of the world than improve it. We are attempting to promote a stronger overall worldwide economy by compromising our own workers. Maybe there is a greater good theme in their somewhere, but, it's going to hurt here at home.
