The original post had to do with people killed by the U.S. in multiple wars - U.S. soldiers fought their first battle in Vietnam in the fall of 1965.

Truman was actually the first president to put advisors into Vietnam, and promise the French we would support them in Vietnam. Eisenhower was unwilling to back up that pledge to aid the French in Vietnam, as well as getting the U.S. out of the Korean War started by Truman.

Because of Eisenhower not supporting the French, all U.S. military bases in France were ordered closed by the French. There are no U.S. bases in France to this day. There are, however, over 900 U.S. Military bases globally.
