I am sure when the argument for the world being round was proposed scholars had many good talking points that would make the idea sound far fetched. Nothing in life is definite, questions can always be raised regarding any subject.
To each his own as to whom he trusts or what data he trusts. I guess that is why we have such divergent views on this board.
