Hecla Venezolana's 5-year plans to increase gold bullion production to 11 tonnes per annum
Hecla Venezolana's new president Thomas Fudge says social programs and aid to small-scale mining projects are consolidating the Idaho (USA) based company in its role as a "good neighbor" in Venezuela, and that more efficient means of exploration and extraction will convert it into the largest gold producer in Venezuela with 5.5 tonnes of bullion per year.
Fudge was appointed a month ago as the new president of Minera Hecla Venezolana, which operates the La Camorra gold mine in El Dorado and Bloque B in El Callao ... Hecla has during the four years since it arrived in Venezuela, consolidated itself as one of the principal employers in the southern region of Bolivar State with 550 at La Camorra, generating 750 indirect jobs and supporting upwards of 5,000 in El Callao, Tumeremo, Guasipati, El Dorado and Ciudad Guayana.
“Hecla has 112 years of experience in mining," Fudge says. "We have a silver mind in Idaho, gold and silver operations at San Sebastian in Mexico and our medium-term flagship project at Bloque B in El Callao where we are almost ready with a feasibility study. We like the geology in Venezuela and we see a lot of opportunities here. He have the perception that there are opportunities to discover new mines and this makes Venezuela a very attractive place to be for Hecla."
Fudge says Hecla is planning to double gold production in Venezuela to 11 tonnes of bullion per year and it is looking to extend its operations in La Camorra, Bloque B and Canaima ... just 8 kilometers (5 miles) distant from La Camorra ... "we also have plans to work out a business plan in cooperation with small-scale miners in the district with technical assistance, security assessment, environmental management, finance, legal aid etc."
