I was summoned in '12 and selected. Medical malpractice case, lasted 4 days.
I threw my hat in the ring for foreman and was selected. I took a lot of notes during the trial….me nature...and I suppose that wasn't lost among the other jurors.
I had a plan, from the movie "12 Angry Men".
I suggested we take a vote, right off the bat. Either it would be 12 zip either way, and we're done. Or not.
'Or not' pertained, 7-5 as I recall.
From the movie, let's go around and argue each side as per your vote. It was always secret vote from start to finish, but the arguments revealed the votes.
We got to 12-0, not without some contention, reasonably quickly. There was a key point made that was decisive to all of the jurors, ostensibly.
No way to be certain that some just didn't want it over with. I didn't get that impression....but.
