I was wondering the same thing. I like your theory, but would not give it a high probablility.

Possibly it's because gold is pretty volatile. Maybe they have decided to average in on the price. Possibly it was because third q numbers were bad enough.

At any rate it almost doesn't matter any more. I think the last fwd expires next year.

Specsingold, your post is a well thought out, cogent, and a thoughtful analysis. I wonder the exact same thing. This company dosen't have the cash to buy anything now so why didn't they get the hedge off the books? Another route step decision and another mystery. I'm getting impatient with the strange lack of direction. The management team becomes more open for critisism day by day and the street and stock price reflects their ineptness.
