I haven't even bored people with my artifact finds. White man trash is often collectible here, but I have metal detected most all of the old homesteads long ago. I have hundreds of obsidian stone points and kitchen midden tools, as there are many hot springs that are undeveloped here, and every one had Indian villages by them as they didn't like being cold in winter either. Luckily, I never got the gold bug.
I hike because I had a mild heart attack/wake up call 10 years ago, the cardio said an hour or two of exercise every day and I could live to be a very old man, and I have every intention of doing so. Walking on pavement in circles on streets was mind-numbing, so now I have gridded about 100 square miles of desert over the decade and know where pretty much every mineral deposit, old bottle dump, and Indian village is. I have an extensive antique barbed wire collection... sadly the sources are mostly gone as the BLM has "updated" miles and miles of old drift fence. Anyway, In retirement, doing something totally different has taught me much.
