yeah, I saw that. And look at this post (see below) from SI: we have, according to UBS, oversupply. But according to Samsung, we have unsupply. Go figure. Mr. Market will believe who he wants to believe, which this morning looks like UBS. But UBS has made these wonderful predictions before, and guess what, they've been wrong (imagine that!). And, according to UBS, the oversupply in 2006 will be worse than the oversupply in 2007, yet SNDK has made good money even in the 2006 environment. Oh well....
Oversupply, again... SanDisk cut to neutral at UBS By Simon Kennedy Last Update: 6:04 AM ET Nov 13, 2006
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- UBS downgraded memory chip manufacturer SNDK45.75, -0.38, -0.8% ) to neutral from buy, citing a likely oversupply in flash memory chips in 2006 and 2007. The firm said capacity growth at SanDisk and its peers means oversupply could reach 10% to 15% in 2006 and 5% to 10% in 2007. End of Story
--------------------------------------- and..... -------------------------------------- Insufficient Samsung NAND flash stock in spot market this week, say memory makers Hans Wu, Taipei; Esther Lam, DigiTimes.com [Monday 13 November 2006]
Demand from the upcoming Christmas season has tightened NAND flash capacity at leading suppliers, including Samsung Electronics, according to sources at Taiwan-based memory makers, who said there should be insufficient Samsung stock to distribute to the spot market this week.
Sources at Samsung, however, stressed that the company would not reduce its supply to Taiwan-based customers but instead will strive to fulfill demand in order to preserve long-term relationships.
The sources at the memory makers noted that leading NAND flash makers are all ramping up capacity to meet growing demand from consumer electronics makers prior to Christmas. Companies, including Samsung, give priority for reserve supplies to international consumer electronics vendors leaving no excess stock for the spot market.
Although seeing a potential drop of supply in the spot market, memory makers said the reduction may help stabilize the recent price trend. Prices of NAND flash has recently been dropping in the spot market. http://www.digitimes.com/print/a20061113A1001.html
