from that link..i would like to submit this boldly...for it is cunning on microft's part...imo:
By offering downloadable HD films, Microsoft is undermining the integrated player strategy of Sony. Consumers who buy the 360 can now play HD quality content without purchasing the HD-DVD drive add-on (or a standalone high definition player). Aside from the technical differences (Sony PlayStation 3 boasting native 1080p, HDMI etc), as far as the mainstream consumer is concerned one of the major differences between Xbox 360 and the PS3 has been neutralised - the ability to play HD video out of the box. Furthermore, by not having an integrated HD-DVD drive, consumers are driven to Xbox Live for downloadable TV and movies: content on which Microsoft makes a margin. Naturally Microsoft would prefer Xbox 360 owners to purchase downloadable content rather than retail video.
....now that is a swift kick in the ?????..eh?...have fun with it..i know i am!--randomness!
