<<He has not made bad calls on everything this year>>.
Maybe not "everything" but he has clearly missed the main thrust of what is happening in the markets. He has spent all year trying (VERY unsuccessfully) to short this market and has called for a steep correction all year. Saying that he has made excellent calls on "the Canadian dollar, wheat and Fannie Mae" while he has completely whiffed on the major US indices is harly impressive in my book.
P.S. I suspect that the reason you "like the guys work" is that you have a very bearish orientation towards investing rather than a neutral orientation that will permit you to simply read the market and follow what it is saying. This is quite dangerous (and very unprofitable) to your investing health.
Sandspring has made many good calls in the past. And they are not as bad this year as some suggest. They did predict a good bounce if memory serves. But it has been a lot stronger and longer than the S&P 950 or so July peak they projected.
