St. Lawrence Cement Group Acquires Asphalt Assets
MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 01, 2006 -- St. Lawrence Cement Group (TSX: ST.A) announced today that the Company has acquired two asphalt plants located in the Greater Montreal area and related construction equipment. These assets as well as approximately 100 salaried and hourly employees will be integrated into Demix Construction, a business unit of St. Lawrence Cement Group.

Demix Construction is a leader in concrete road paving in Quebec. It specializes in the development of large engineering/construction projects for public and parapublic services, as well as for the commercial and industrial sectors. Demix Construction is associated with large projects, such as the rebuilding and paving of highways and airport aprons in the Montreal area. Its main customers are the governments of Canada and Quebec, municipalities, airport authorities and heavy industry.

This acquisition will allow Demix Construction to diversify its product and service mix while generating synergies with its aggregate activities.
