xdsl,mPhase Technologies Testing Nanobattery Characteristics for Military and Aerospace Uses with Major Manufacturer Business Wire - October 30, 2006 09:45 A Consulting agreement will explore potential uses for nanotechnology based architecture in aerospace and military products
LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Oct 30, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- mPhase Technologies (OTCBB:XDSL) today announced that they have received a consulting contract with a large defense and aerospace firm's R&D group to test the mPhase Nanobattery.
The companies will collaborate on research and analysis of the mPhase nanobatteries potential use in various aerospace applications. mPhase will test the characteristics of the coatings used in the nanotextured device. A significant part of the testing will be survivability of the coatings and additional air gun testing.
"We are pleased to have an industry leader setting the bar for our Nanobattery," said Steve Simon, EVP, R&D at mPhase Technologies. "It will focus our research on specific requirements."
The mPhase Nanobattery was highlighted in a feature article, "Building a Better Battery," in the November issue of WIRED magazine. The article said that the project that could potentially increase "battery life by an order of magnitude for the first time in 100 years." The novel mPhase battery won the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Energy Storage Enabling Technology Award. mPhase's "smart" battery design relies on nanostructures to separate electrolytes from the positive and negative electrodes, thereby preventing premature electrochemical reactions until activated. The storage device is expected to have an exceedingly long shelf life and set new levels for miniaturization and flexibility. Frost & Sullivan called it "a pioneering battery design" that "promises to revolutionize the portable reserve power storage market."
