tr8dervic, yep I was around for all of Jack's career and I believe Tiger was better, less majors, but more wins and much more competition. I told this here before, in 1959 I was 12 and a forecaddy on the 14th hole at Woodhill Country Club, just west of Minneapolis for an amateur tourney, The Trans Mississippi. It was qualifying then match play for the final 8. The last two played 36. Both caddies were friends of my older sisters and the eventual winner's caddy asked me to replace his golfers divots the last day as he would get lost in the crowd, no roping off then. The other golfer was Dean Beman, no slouch either, and the winner was my sisters friend's caddy guy, Jack Nicholas. He won 1 up after 36. He was so intense, I think our eyes met once. I thought little of it then, lol, but now my favorite sports moment. Jack was still going to Ohio State, but asked his caddy if he'd go on tour with him. Dave, the caddy, was to be a HS senior that fall and was going to be the starting QB for his HS football team, starting guard on the basketball team and a great golfer himself, and a college sports scholarship already lined up. He passed it up. Some regrets, but he did OK in life, and thought being on the road would have been terrible for his future family life, and he had no idea Jack would go on to such greatness at that point in his career.
I think I have posted this here maybe 4 times now..... and will again, lol.
