The election process toward Popedom would still likely prevent the election of a Pope like even the Catholics who are pushing him to act more strongly against child abusers would like to have. One thing is certain, if he doesn't do more, over time he'll lose more.
i hold no candle for the Catholic Church or popism, but there seems t ob a right wing coup going on in the CC hierarchy. the usual struggle between "conservative" right wingers (Benedict) and agents of change (Francis). a lot to be lost or gained by the conservative faction. temper your harsh evaluation of someone who also has to fight his own Board of directors (cardinals)
