I recall hearing from my son who was at the SF GIANTS bb game vs Oakland A's when the 1989 quake happened - I was so glad to hear he was safe.
Eventually he got accustomed to small quakes that would rattle the dishes, etc. but knew the "big one" will eventually happen...he has since moved to the East coast.
