To me the question is becoming more and more irrelevant anyway since the real action is surely NOT in MY cpu vs. YOUR cpu

I didn't say anything about CPUs. I was talking purely about (how dumb it is to be) using transistor density as the end-all-be-all metric, with a little WTF about flum's "3d shrink" strawman.

Re: whether it's "different" now wrt Intel vs. AMD... Yeah, it feels that way. Seems like AMD will surely benefit from the tailwind of deep-pocketed "mobile" driving R&D in the pure-play foundries.
