Monsanto has been a bad actor for decades. If you at the Green Revolution in India that Monsanto was intimately involved in, the crop yields went up dramatically--but now the farmers are trapped in a debt cycle with Monsanto because they have to buy GMO seeds from Monsanto, the yields are not staying up, the groundwater is getting polluted with pesticides.
If you search "India organic farming", it is clear that the government of India wants to leave Monsanto/chemical food production and move to organic.
A large legal award like this could not have happened to a more deserving company than Monsanto.
