Agreed, but I also find it better, especially for longer, larger runs to have the fundamental as well as the technical.
Having a company that is undervalued based on their financials combined with a nice chart setup can equate to much more explosive run as when people take notice of the chart they are also impressed by what the company is doing creating less perceived risk than the typical penny P&D chart pop allowing people the comfort to hold longer for more gains.
