Where do birds go during the winter? Many birds migrate south in the winter and return to the north during the summer months. Birds that rely on insects, fruit, and nectar go south to the tropics in the winter to get food that isn’t available in the winter months. But they return to the north to take advantage of flushes of insects, flowers, and larger breeding territories during the summer.
