Indeed, the placebo effect is a real thing, but it very much depends on the type of issue you are looking to treat.
Mental, which is all in the mind to begin with, and other issues that are generally transient in nature can be quite good for placebo effect as these issues lean on the psychological benefit.
There are also deeper effects to placebos, which shows the mind of matter approach with regards eliciting a response from the body to react to something even though the product may only be a placebo. However for those cases, the effects typically wears off very quickly, as you can only 'fool' reality for so long.

Horizon is a fantastic series looking at real world issues.
However, the placebo effect in IC and even more so in CLI would I think be very much muted and short-lived, as we are not dealing with aspects that can be very well 'fooled' by the mind.
