We are also the world's wealthiest nation and our debt-to-GDP ratio is well below any other industrial nation.

The debt includes self-liquidating aspects and will also be paid off by future government surpluses. As I said before, the idea that we can symmetrically divide the debt by the population is an absurd notion.
Peg writes: And happier yet that the upper tier of US taxpayers got a tax cut - those who need it the least?
The tax cuts reflated the dollar, encouraged commerce and increased investment in our nation at a time when it seemed probable that we would face a lengthy recession. I don't know how much more clear I could be other than that.
